MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

Postdoctoral Research

The candidate must be accepted by the supervisor and be in receipt of a grant from an international or national funding agency abroad or, alternatively, must have been accepted for a Brazilian government grant awarded through an agreement with the student’s country of origin.

Doctoral Degree

The candidate must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent. The Master’s degree must be concluded before the date of enrollment in the doctoral program. The candidate must be accepted by the supervisor, and be in receipt of a grant from an international or national funding agency abroad. As in the case of the postdoctoral researchers, candidates who receive a Brazilian government grant awarded through an agreement with the candidate’s country of origin will be accepted. Each case will be analyzed by the Admission Committee of the UFSC Chemistry Graduate Program and foreign candidates must have an academic profile similar to Brazilian students accepted on the program.

Students who are not in receipt of a grant must respect the enrollment dates and the selection regulations of the UFSC Chemistry Graduate Program.

Both doctoral and postdoctoral candidates are required to have a good knowledge of English and doctoral students will need to show a sufficient command of Portuguese after one year in Brazil.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The first step to candidates who wish to apply for the Doctoral or Postdoctoral Program is to contact a Supervisor from the Chemistry Graduate Program, in the Concentration Area of their interest.

Deadlines: For entry in Semester 1 (March-July), applicants must submit their applications from 1 October to 31 October. For entry in Semester 2 (August-December), applications will be accepted from 16 March to 10 April. Applications submitted later than the deadline will not be considered.

IMPORTANT! In order to study at any institution in Brazil, one MUST hold a student visa (IV type) issued in the student’s country. It is not possible to obtain a student visa in Brazil, only a visa renewal. In order to obtain the student visa (Visto Temporário IV), the student must go to the Brazilian embassy/consulate in his/her country of origin, in possession of the acceptance letter from the host institution. Also, it is not possible to change the type of visa in Brazil. Therefore, students must not leave their country without the student visa (VITEM IV). Without such visa, the student will not be able to be registered at UFSC, not even in the Portuguese as a Foreign Language course.
